₹60,000 Crore Credit Push for Businesses
Under ECLGS 5.0

In a major liquidity boost for Indian businesses, banks have sanctioned more than ₹60,000 crore under ECLGS 5.0during the April-June quarter of FY 2026-27.

Launched in May 2026, the government-backed credit guarantee scheme is designed to support enterprises affected by disruptions arising from the West Asia conflict. MSMEs, exporters, manufacturers, logistics companies and other stressed sectors are among the key beneficiaries.

MSMEs Lead the Demand
The strong response to ECLGS 5.0 demonstrates the urgent need for timely and affordable working capital. MSMEs have emerged as the largest beneficiary segment, using the scheme to manage cash-flow pressures, sustain production, protect employment and maintain business continuity.

Leading Banks Step Up Sanctions
Among public-sector banks, Punjab National Bank has sanctioned approximately ₹12,345 crore after receiving around 20,000 applications. The bank has indicated that it may extend credit of up to ₹30,000 crore under the scheme.
Canara Bank has sanctioned nearly ₹7,000 crore against approximately 68,000 applications and sees the potential to extend support of up to ₹20,000 crore.
Private-sector banks have also reported significant activity:
  • HDFC Bank: Around ₹14,000 crore sanctioned
  • Axis Bank: Approximately ₹10,000 crore disbursed
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank: Nearly ₹3,000 crore sanctioned
Other participating banks include:
  • Indian Bank: Around ₹5,000 crore
  • Central Bank of India: Approximately ₹4,500 crore
  • Indian Overseas Bank: Nearly ₹2,600 crore
  • Federal Bank: Around ₹2,000 crore
  • RBL Bank: Approximately ₹200 crore
  • Karur Vysya Bank: Nearly ₹75 crore
Major lenders including the State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank and Yes Bank are yet to disclose their sanction figures, suggesting that the overall credit support under the scheme could be substantially higher.

What This Means for MSMEs
ECLGS 5.0 can provide crucial financial support to eligible enterprises facing temporary stress due to external economic disruptions. However, MSMEs should carefully assess:
  • Their eligibility under the scheme
  • Additional borrowing and repayment capacity
  • Working-capital requirements
  • Interest rates and loan conditions
  • Documentation required by their bank

The objective should not merely be to obtain additional credit, but to use it strategically for sustaining operations, protecting viable businesses and strengthening future cash flows.

Eligible MSMEs should approach their banks promptly, understand the applicable terms and prepare the required financial documents to avoid delays.
