Welcome New FY 2022-23

Dear friends,

Please accept my warm greetings!

The new Financial Year 2022-23 has begun.

While the year has opened upto the blessings of Maa Durga in Navratri, the pious days of Ramazan fast have begun too. What better way to begin the journey with ethereal blessings for all!

2021-22 saw two big waves of Covid. One in April-May 2021 was very severe with deaths and miseries we saw all around. It sure was the darkest phase of our lives, watching helplessly many near ones die.

The next wave (Omicron) in January 2022 was widespread but mild and without deaths and pain.

Leaving the two waves behind, we open up to 2022-23 with all regulations and restrictions of Covid ending on 1st April. Life is back to normal and we prepare for the next innings.

Q4 of 2021-22 saw the beginning of Ukraine-Russia conflict which added to the supply chain, gas and crude supply disruptions across the world, resulting in price increases and uncertainties.

November-February we saw restrictions on Diesel Gensets by CAQM. While power utilities maintained their poor performance and outages, the ban on diesel Gensets hit us all badly.

So 2021-22 was the year of huge challenges, ups and downs. Two Covid waves, Ukraine-Russia conflict, CAQM regulations, Raw material hikes, Stock markets peaking, BSE and Nifty rising high and falling too, end of the year-long and painful farmers agitation and elections in five states with four re-electing BJP and one in Punjab bringing in the disruption of AAP.

We saw mixed results in the MSME sector in 2021-22. A large number of our members saw remarkable revival of businesses in 2021-22, growing 15-50% during the year. Lower bank rates helped in better profits too. However, we also saw many still struggling.

If I were asked to reply in one phrase “Why?”, I’d say, “Difference in their preparedness”.

Many members are digitalised, tech savvy, keep learning, keep themselves updated, invest in improvements, keep experimenting and innovating. They outperformed the rest and gave the best results.

Other MSMEs that keep themselves restricted to traditional ways, have not prepared themselves in easier times, didn’t have any succession plan, less exposure and access to right mentoring, progressive thoughts, precise handholding, have hugely suffered.

2022-23, I believe, is the Year of Infinite Possibilities.

All sectors have fully opened up now… cinema, malls, travel, entertainment… everything. The market is less of a challenge as of now, specially for luxury goods. Does it sound strange? I’ll write another blog to explain this new phenomenon, but just to add here, markets and demand are in full swing, more so for high-end, luxury goods.

The set of challenges ahead are different and mostly man-made.

One, of course, is the Ukraine-Russia crisis. Though it’s difficult to predict how long it's going to last, but even if it ends soon, the impact on supply chains will last much longer than we think and high inflation thus stares at us.

There may be a some increase in interest rates too this year.

These two will sure impact us all. Yet, I am extremely bullish on 2022-23 and see another big year of growth for MSMEs that are better prepared. In many cases, 2022-23 should see even higher growth for those who grew in 2021-22. Preparedness pays, again and again.

So, at IamSMEofIndia, we shall focus in this Q1 on the following:
1. Showcasing the better prepared business models
2. Handholding entrepreneurs prepare a well defined, time bound, progressive business plan
3. Handhold high potential businesses to the level next!

It is in this series that we are organising following two very important programs this month:
1. Capacity Building Program for better Accounts & Finance Management:
This is an out-of-the-box program, giving lessons & tips like never before, pure money and adding immense value guaranteeing unprecedented savings.
We’re organising this on 6th April and suggest you not to miss it. Details below.

2. Focus on identifying and overcoming Quality & Productivity Challenges:
A special brainstorming session with Specialist engaged by QCI (Nabet), to identify the quality challenges we face on Shopfloor, Logistics, supply chains and even in general management including Marketing etc. Based upon our requirements, Further experts shall be provided to help the SMEs standout and grow exponentially. We’ll inform you the date soon.

Annual Business Plan Writing and Advanced Learning Program:
Two-day residential Program for Advanced & Futuristic Learning and Business Plan Writing under expert advice shall be organised at ITC Grand Bharat or similar destination. This is for 20-25 select Enterprises with high growth potential, entrepreneurs along with their Spouses & Gen next
and preparing them for future wealth management, Public Listings and IPOs/ Fund raising etc. This is our Annual program and we shall be writing separately to invite nominations.

I hope we shall prepare ourselves and our Teams well to get the best out of 2022-23, the year of infinite possibilities.

We, at IamSMEofIndia, remain committed to serve you, understand and resolve your issues, be a strong bridge between you and the policy makers to help bring right solutions that take our MSMEs towards a progressive future.
